I should have mentioned that these were functions that should be in addition to their primary use. iPhone's primary is calls, iPad's primary is knocking the three basics out of the park. I agree that portable computers are more versatile than desktop computers. When it comes to Macs, I've owned four of the former and none of the latter. I don't understand why anyone would want to be tethered to a desk. Though some derided the decision at the time, Steve was right when he launched the iMac without a floppy drive. My concern with the iPad isn't the "minimalist" nature of the hardware, but what some have called "curated computing". Do we really want an environment in which only Apple-approved programs can exist? This is a vast departure from the creativity that founded the company.
